Lesson’s from Paul’s Life

This Sermon series will help us understand what dedication to the Lord is all about. We learn what zeal, humility, and praying to God should be like in our lives. Paul was truly a man who loved God.

Saul of Tarsus:

Tarsus of Cilicia was the hometown of the apostle Paul

 Acts 22:3 (NASB)
³  "I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city, educated under Gamaliel, strictly according to the law of our fathers, being zealous for God just as you all are today.
 

Saul was a Jewish Hebrew of the tribe of Benjamin

A Pharisee

 Philippians 3:5 (NASB)
⁵  circumcised the eighth day, of the nation of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the Law, a Pharisee;
 
 (i.e., a religious school or party among the Jews. The word Pharisee

means “separate.” The Pharisees believed and taught an oral portion of the Law of Moses

that was a sort of commentary to the Law given to Moses. This law is termed the Mishna

and is found in the first portion of the Talmud. Paul was schooled in the Mishna:

Saul was an exceptional student of the Law and the traditions (Mishna).

Saul was a tent maker by trade (cf. Acts 18:1-3).

¹  After these things he left Athens and went to Corinth.
²  And he found a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, having recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to leave Rome. He came to them,
³  and because he was of the same trade, he stayed with them and they were working, for by trade they were tent-makers.

First introduced to Saul at Acts 7:58 as he consented to the death of Stephen.

⁵⁴  Now when they heard this, they were cut to the quick, and they began gnashing their teeth at him.
⁵⁵  But being full of the Holy Spirit, he gazed intently into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God;
⁵⁶  and he said, "Behold, I see the heavens opened up and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God."
⁵⁷  But they cried out with a loud voice, and covered their ears and rushed at him with one impulse.
⁵⁸  When they had driven him out of the city, they began stoning him; and the witnesses laid aside their robes at the feet of a young man named Saul.
⁵⁹  They went on stoning Stephen as he called on the Lord and said, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!"
⁶⁰  Then falling on his knees, he cried out with a loud voice, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them!" Having said this, he fell asleep.

Saul zealously persecuted the church of Christ (Acts 9:1-2, 14; 22:3-5; 26:10-11; I Cor.

15:9; Phil. 3:4-8)

Acts 9:1-2 Now Saul was still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord. He went to the high priest ² and requested letters from him to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any men or women who belonged to the Way, he might bring them as prisoners to Jerusalem.

Acts 22:3-5  He continued, “I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia but brought up in this city, educated at the feet of Gamaliel according to the law of our ancestors. I was zealous for God, just as all of you are today. ⁴ I persecuted this Way to the death, arresting and putting both men and women in jail, ⁵ as both the high priest and the whole council of elders can testify about me. After I received letters from them to the brothers, I traveled to Damascus to arrest those who were there and bring them to Jerusalem to be punished.

Verse 
 1 Peter 3:1-4Wives, in the same way submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.
