Sermon: “Message to the Seven Churches”

The Message to the Church in Pergamum

 "Third Church Message"
       Pastor Kim Wenzel

The Message to the Church in Pergamum

Revelation 2: 12-17 NLT

12 “Write this letter to the angel of the church in Pergamum. This is the message from the one with the sharp two-edged sword:
13 “I know that you live in the city where Satan has his throne, yet you have remained loyal to me. You refused to deny me even when Antipas, my faithful witness, was martyred among you there in Satan’s city.
14 “But I have a few complaints against you. You tolerate some among you whose teaching is like that of Balaam, who showed Balak how to trip up the people of Israel. He taught them to sin by eating food offered to idols and by committing sexual sin. 15 In a similar way, you have some Nicolaitans among you who follow the same teaching. 16 Repent of your sin, or I will come to you suddenly and fight against them with the sword of my mouth.
17 “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. To everyone who is victorious I will give some of the manna that has been hidden away in heaven. And I will give to each one a white stone, and on the stone will be engraved a new name that no one understands except the one who receives it.

Seven Churches of Revelation Map

Pergamum was an ancient City located in the Anatolia  region, approximately 25 kilometers from the Aegean Sea in present-day Bergama, Izmir Province of Turkey. The city had great strategic value, since it overlooked the Caicus River Valley (modern name Bakırçay) which provided access from Pergamum to the Aegean coast. Pergamum reached the height of its influence during the Hellenistic Period, becoming the capital of the Attalid kings. During the Roman period the city was the first capital of the Asian province, but it eventually lost this status to local rival, Ephesus.

Today's Sermon

“Message to the Seven Churches”
     Pastor Kim Wenzel

The Message to the Church in Smyrna

 "Second Church Message"

Revelation 2:8-11 NLT

“Write this letter to the angel of the church in Smyrna. This is the message from the one who is the First and the Last, who was dead but is now alive:
“I know about your suffering and your poverty—but you are rich! I know the blasphemy of those opposing you. They say they are Jews, but they are not, because their synagogue belongs to Satan. 10 Don’t be afraid of what you are about to suffer. The devil will throw some of you into prison to test you. You will suffer for ten days. But if you remain faithful even when facing death, I will give you the crown of life.
11 “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. Whoever is victorious will not be harmed by the second death.

Commentary "Wesley's Notes On The Bible
2:10 The first and last words of this verse are particularly directed to the minister; whence we may gather, that his suffering and the affliction of the church were at the same time, and of the same continuance. Fear none of those things which thou art about to suffer - Probably by means of the false Jews. Behold - This intimates the nearness of the affliction. Perhaps the ten days began on the very day that the Revelation was read at Smyrna, or at least very soon after. The devil - Who sets all persecutors to work; and these more particularly. Is about to cast some of you - Christians at Smyrna; where, in the first ages, the blood of many martyrs was shed. Into prison, that ye may be tried - To your unspeakable advantage, 1Pet 4:12,14. And ye shall have affliction - Either in your own persons, or by sympathizing with your brethren. Ten days - (Literally taken) in the end of Domitian's persecution, which was stopped by the edict of the emperor Nerva. Be thou faithful - Our Lord does not say, till I come, as in the other letters, but unto death - Signifying that the angel of this church should quickly after seal his testimony with his blood; fifty years before the martyrdom of Polycarp, for whom some have mistaken him. And I will give thee the crown of life - The peculiar reward of them who are faithful unto death.

Today's Verse

1 Peter 2:24-25
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

Sermon: “To the Church in Ephesus”
  Pastor Kim Wenzel
This is the first of Seven letters or Messages to the Seven Churches in Revelation Chapter 2

Revelation 2: 1-7 (NLT)

The Message to the Church in Ephesus

“Write this letter to the angel[a] of the church in Ephesus. This is the message from the one who holds the seven stars (Angels) in his right hand, the one who walks among the seven gold lampstands: (Churches)
“I know all the things you do. I have seen your hard work and your patient endurance. I know you don’t tolerate evil people. You have examined the claims of those who say they are apostles but are not. You have discovered they are liars. You have patiently suffered for me without quitting.
“But I have this complaint against you. You don’t love me or each other as you did at first![b] Look how far you have fallen! Turn back to me and do the works you did at first. If you don’t repent, I will come and remove your lampstand from its place among the churches. But this is in your favor: You hate the evil deeds of the Nicolaitans, just as I do.
“Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. To everyone who is victorious I will give fruit from the tree of life in the paradise of God.

Footnotes
a. 2:1 Or the messenger; also in 2:8, 12, 18.
b. 2:4 Greek You have lost your first love.
Nicolaitans
(followers of Nicolas ), a sect mentioned in ( Revelation 2:6 Revelation 2:15 ) whose deeds were strongly condemned. They may have been identical with those who held the doctrine of Balaam. They seem to have held that it was lawful to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit fornication, in opposition to the decree of the Church rendered in (Acts 15:20 Acts 15:29) The teachers of the Church branded them with a name which expressed their true character. The men who did and taught such things were followers of Balaam. ( 2 Peter 2:15 Jude 1:11 ) They, like the false prophet of Pethor, united brave words with evil deeds. In a time of persecution, when the eating or not eating of things sacrificed to idols was more than ever a crucial test of faithfulness, they persuaded men more than ever that was a thing indifferent. (Revelation 2:13 Revelation 2:14) This was bad enough, but there was a yet worse evil. Mingling themselves in the orgies of idolatrous feasts, they brought the impurities of those feasts into the meetings of the Christian Church. And all this was done, it must be remembered not simply as an indulgence of appetite: but as a part of a system, supported by a "doctrine," accompanied by the boast of a prophetic illumination, ( (2 Peter 2:1) It confirms the view which has been taken of their character to find that stress is laid in the first instance on the "deeds" of the Nicolaitans. To hate those deeds is a sign of life in a Church that otherwise is weak and faithless. ( Revelation 2:6) To tolerate them is well nigh to forfeit the glory of having been faithful under persecution. ( Revelation 2:13 Revelation 2:14

Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and
renounces them finds mercy.

Independence
Independence began as a vision ,
framed in wisdom,
bought and payed for with life and
enjoyed by everyone
Disgrace began unforeseen,
framed by laziness, charged to
future generations and will be
placed at the feet of everyone
The America of the free and home
of the brave seems to be slipping
away and repentance is all that
can save everyone
Praise be to God the Father And
His Son Jesus for the blessings on
this Great Country and may peace
find everyone.

Sermon: “Right in His Own Eyes”
    Pastor Kim Wenzel
Judges 17:6 In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes.

Proverbs 12:15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.
Hebrews 3:6-11
But Christ, as the Son, is in charge of God’s entire house. And we are God’s house, if we keep our courage and remain confident in our hope in Christ.[d]
That is why the Holy Spirit says,
“Today when you hear his voice,
    don’t harden your hearts
as Israel did when they rebelled,
when they tested me in the wilderness.
There your ancestors tested and tried my patience,
even though they saw my miracles for forty years.
10 So I was angry with them, and I said,
‘Their hearts always turn away from me.
They refuse to do what I tell them.’
11 So in my anger I took an oath:
‘They will never enter my place of rest.’”[e]

Footnotes
1 d 3:6 Some manuscripts add faithful to the end.
2 e 3:7-11 Psalms 95:7-11

1. Let us always REMEMBER who our King is!
2. Let us know our Kings Ways.
3. Pray for revival - bring back the mind and heart of Christ to many.

 We must also remember
We can not just let people keep hiding!
We must go out looking for them or else they will surely stay lost for ever!!

Today's Verse
1 John 5:14
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask any-thing according to his will, he hears us.

 Spread the News
Looking back into my memory bank I recall moments of joy I notice how small things could bring a smile when I was a boy
As I grew older it seems the need for more did as well Taking things for granted and things I'd rather not tell
Then a bright light came on and the truth became real Only God can give true joy in your heart for me to feel
Looking to the future my desire to share this I must do As I spread the good news of the joy God has for you.

Sermon: “What Is Sacrifice?”
     Pastor Kim Wenzel
Sacrifice!
The Hebrew word is Zebach - pronounced (zeh bach)
The Greek word is Thusia
(Shadows of the old testament to Jesus)
Cycle of life - death of something brings life to another.
Sacrifice - Very high cost - Thus the Sacrifice of Jesus, he died so we can have live!
 Our Covenant
Matthew 26:26-29
26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.”
27 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the[b] covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”
 Footnote
b. Some manuscripts the new

The nature of Sacrifice: Give something valuable, and never get it back.
It is not an investment with a return
It is not a simple sharing of extra we have

Pastor Kim told a very good story about two Christian Believers in a Russian prison that were freezing, what a good example of sacrificing!

The Calling Of Mathew

Matthew 9:9-13

As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.
10 While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples. 11 When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
12 On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 13 But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’[a] For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

Footnotes
a. Matthew 9:13 Hosea 6:6

Romans 3:25
25 God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement,[i] through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— 26 he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.

Footnotes
i. Romans 3:25 The Greek for sacrifice of atonement refers to the atonement cover on the ark of the covenant (see Leviticus 16: 15, 16

Romans 12:1-2
1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Today's Verse

Psalm 91:1-2
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, "My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust."
