Forgiveness Part 1  - Tools from God

What seeds are you sowing?

Disclaimer: Life is not all pain and betrayal

John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Colossians 3: 12-14

¹² Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. ¹³ Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. ¹⁴ And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

Tools God Gives Us:

Tools - used and misused

God Tools help us Process the hurt, wounding and betrayal

-like meat for your family.

Man’s Tools: Alcohol, drugs, painkillers, escapism, self-destruction, violence, revenge etc.

 “But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven"  Matthew 6:20
“Don’t mortgage future generation.” I chewed on the concept for days. I resisted the magnetic pull of wanting to know how other people might be setting up future generations to pay a huge price for the heart-purchases the current generation is making—pride, greed, excess, self-absorption.
Instead, I asked Jesus to do what David asked in Psalm 139. I said, “Examine me and see if there is any ungodly way in me.” If I live beyond my means, I’m creating a habit in my children and grandchildren, mortgaging their futures. If I speak unkindly about others, I’m mortgaging their future relationships. They’ll either have to fight off the pattern I established, or they’ll repeat it. If I let disappointment become resentment, or allow an offense to take root in me, I’m mortgaging their souls’ health. If I treat alone time with the Lord as an insignificant or a joyless duty, I’m mortgaging their spiritual futures. If I say, “The check’s in the mail,” and it isn’t, I’m mortgaging the integrity of future generation. Jesus told us that the seeds we plant today bear fruit long into the future, that those who invest in the spiritual futures of their children and grandchildren---laying up treasures that count in heaven---leave a legacy, not a mortgage

Malachi 4:1-2
"Surely the day is coming; it will burn like a furnace. All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble, and the day that is coming will set them on fire," says the Lord Almighty. "Not a root or a branch will be left to them. But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its rays. And you will go out and frolic like well-fed calves."

Sermon :“Greater Things!”

Matthew 11:7-14 NIV

1 When Jesus finished placing this charge before his twelve disciples, he went on to teach and preach in their villages.

^2-3 John, meanwhile, had been locked up in prison. When he got wind of what Jesus was doing, he sent his own disciples to ask, “Are you the One we’ve been expecting, or are we still waiting?”
^4-6 Jesus told them, “Go back and tell John what’s going on:

The blind see,
The lame walk,
Lepers are cleansed,
The deaf hear,
The dead are raised,
The wretched of the earth learn that God is on their side.

“Is this what you were expecting? Then count yourselves most blessed!”

^7-10 When John’s disciples left to report, Jesus started talking to the crowd about John. “What did you expect when you went out to see him in the wild? A weekend camper? Hardly. What then? A sheik in silk pajamas? Not in the wilderness, not by a long shot. What then? A prophet? That’s right, a prophet! Probably the best prophet you’ll ever hear. He is the prophet that Malachi announced when he wrote, ‘I’m sending my prophet ahead of you, to make the road smooth for you.’
^11-14 “Let me tell you what’s going on here: No one in history surpasses John the Baptizer; but in the kingdom he prepared you for, the lowliest person is ahead of him. For a long time now people have tried to force themselves into God’s kingdom. But if you read the books of the Prophets and God’s Law closely, you will see them culminate in John, teaming up with him in preparing the way for the Messiah of the kingdom. Looked at in this way, John is the ‘Elijah’ you’ve all been expecting to arrive and introduce the Messiah. "Yet whoever is the least in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than he!"

Amos 5:1-6 NIV

1 Listen to this, family of Israel,
    this Message I’m sending in bold print, this tragic warning:

² “Virgin Israel has fallen flat on her face.
    She’ll never stand up again.
She’s been left where she’s fallen.
    No one offers to help her up.”

³ This is the Message, God’s Word:

“The city that marches out with a thousand
    will end up with a hundred.
The city that marches out with a hundred
    will end up with ten. Oh, family of Israel!”

^4-5 God’s Message to the family of Israel:

“Seek me and live.
    Don’t fool around at those shrines of Bethel,
Don’t waste time taking trips to Gilgal,
    and don’t bother going down to Beer-sheba.
Gilgal is here today and gone tomorrow
    and Bethel is all show, no substance.”

⁶ So seek God and live! You don’t want to end up
    with nothing to show for your life
But a pile of ashes, a house burned to the ground.
    For God will send just such a fire,
    and the firefighters will show up too late.

John 11:11-14 NIV

^1-14 “Believe me: I am in my Father and my Father is in me. If you can’t believe that, believe what you see—these works. The person who trusts me will not only do what I’m doing but even greater things, because I, on my way to the Father, am giving you the same work to do that I’ve been doing. You can count on it. From now on, whatever you request along the lines of who I am and what I am doing, I’ll do it. That’s how the Father will be seen for who he is in the Son. I mean it. Whatever you request in this way, I’ll do.

 Sermon: “Fish Out of Water”

As Charles Spurgeon said, 
"Living without Serving God Is Like Being a Fish Out of Water"

Man does exist without God, and we may not venture to call that existence “life.” 
If he lives in pleasure, yet he is dead while he lives, He must develop a relationship with God and live according to God's divine plan.
John 3:36  
 ³⁶ Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.

Read the whole chapter, Matthew 10 the tough truth chapter!

Matthew 10:32-33 (NIV)
³³ But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven. ³⁴ “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.

Matthew 10:32-33 (The Message) 
 ^32-33 “Stand up for me against world opinion and I’ll stand up for you before my Father in heaven. If you turn tail and run, do you think I’ll cover for you?

Fish need water, Polar Bear needs cold weather, Camel needs the desert, and humans need God to live life happily!  

1 Peter 3:13-18 (The Message) 
 ^13-18 If with heart and soul you’re doing good, do you think you can be stopped? Even if you suffer for it, you’re still better off. Don’t give the opposition a second thought. Through thick and thin, keep your hearts at attention, in adoration before Christ, your Master. Be ready to speak up and tell anyone who asks why you’re living the way you are, and always with the utmost courtesy. Keep a clear conscience before God so that when people throw mud at you, none of it will stick. They’ll end up realizing that they’re the ones who need a bath. It’s better to suffer for doing good, if that’s what God wants, than to be punished for doing bad. That’s what Christ did definitively: suffered because of others’ sins, the Righteous One for the unrighteous ones. He went through it all—was put to death and then made alive—to bring us to God.

Sermon: “Law of the Harvest” 
        Pastor Kim Wenzel
Law 1: The harvest is limited to the planting. 
You can only harvest what you have plant. in other words, if you haven't sown it, GOD can't multiply it!

 Galatians 6:7 NASB

⁷ Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.

Law 2: The harvest comes later than the planting. 
We live in a generation of instant gratification. Real change takes time to grow. Dandelions take 24 hours, shade trees take 24 years. 
Story: Time to aerate the lawn & plant seeds. 
Results take time, what you sow today, you won't see the return of until the next season in life. Sowing is all about the future.

Law 3: The harvest is greater than the planting.
Jesus talked about a harvest of 30, 60, 100 fold.
Mark 4:20 NASB
 ²⁰ And those are the ones on whom seed was sown on the good soil; and they hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold.”
It challenges his disciples to be generous with their money because "where your treasures are, there your heart will be also." It's the same principle, invest your treasure in Heaven, and watch your heart follow it. Having your heart set on Heaven is a far greater gift than having more cash!

⁶ Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows ^[e]bountifully will also reap ^[f]bountifully.

Law 4: The harvest is proportional to the planting. 
Plant one seed and you will get one plant, (hopefully) Plant a dozen seeds, and you will get a dozen. Invest minimally in God's Kingdom, and you will reap minimally; invest greatly, and watch as God brings in a harvest you can not contain! 
 Here's a startling biblical truth;Your generosity toward God and others determines his generosity toward you. Here's how Solomon put it: "Whoever is kind to the poor is lending to the Lord - the benefit of his gift will return to him in abundance."
Proverbs 19:17 ISV
17 One who is gracious to a poor man lends to the Lord,
And He will repay him for his ^[l]good deed.

Solomon was himself a man of generosity. For example, it was a tradition for the King to sacrifice one bull during his inauguration. But 1 Chronicles 29:21 Tells us that Solomon  sacrificed a thousand bulls. How's that for giving "Above and beyond?" Is it any coincidence that the only time God said to someone, "Ask me for whatever you want, and I'll give it to you." He said it to an extravagant giver? To the excessively generous, God is excessively generous. You can not out-give God!

Law 5: We can not do anything about this years harvest, but we can change next year's.
You reap today what you sowed yesterday. The financial difficulties you are experiencing, the materialism in your kids, the dissatisfaction in your own heart .... these may be a harvest of an ungenerous past.
