DISCIPLESHIP – INTRODUCTION

This is the first Sermon in a series on DISCIPLESHIP
What is it?     Term not used in Old Testament.
New Testament: term only used in four Gospels and Acts

Meaning: learning from a teacher as in coaching. Watch the Master and do what he/she does. Values, principles, methods, applications, dealing with challenges and difficulties

2 John 6  And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love. NIV

Ephesians 5:2   Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us[a] and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God. NLT

1 John 1:6-7   So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. NLT

Age and Health – remember Jesus was 30 to 33 when he did his ministry!

Analogy of elevator, and staircase

Revelation 3:3-5  The Sardis Church:  Go back to what you heard and believed at first; hold to it firmly. Repent and turn to me again. If you don’t wake up, I will come to you suddenly, as unexpected as a thief. “Yet there are some in the church in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes with evil. They will walk with me in white, for they are worthy. All who are victorious will be clothed in white. I will never erase their names from the Book of Life, but I will announce before my Father and his angels that they are mine. NLT

Praying Every Day

Just a kind, gentle reminder, we are praying every single day for two things as a congregation as well as all that we pray for individually.
1. Father draw new people to Faith congregation and help us grow as you wish.

2. Help me personally to see through the eyes of the Holy Spirit as well as my own eyes.

3. Holy Spirit guide and direct me so that I would grow in the Lord & watch over me always.

Sunday August 14-2016

The Sermon was "A Tale of Three Spirits"

David – Saul - Absalom

2 Samuel 15   (The Message) As time went on, Absalom took to riding in a horse-drawn chariot, with fifty men running in front of him. Early each morning he would take up his post beside the road at the city gate. When anyone showed up with a case to bring to the king for a decision, Absalom would call him over and say, “Where do you hail from?”
And the answer would come, “Your servant is from one of the tribes of Israel.”

3-6 Then Absalom would say, “Look, you’ve got a strong case; but the king isn’t going to listen to you.” Then he’d say, “Why doesn’t someone make me a judge for this country? Anybody with a case could bring it to me and I’d settle things fair and square.” Whenever someone would treat him with special honor, he’d shrug it off and treat him like an equal, making him feel important. Absalom did this to everyone who came to do business with the king and stole the hearts of everyone in Israel.

7-After four years of this, Absalom spoke to the king, “Let me go to Hebron to pay a vow that I made to God.
Story: David and King Saul
Story: Absalom and King David
Spirit of Saul – Controlling, fearful, resistant to change, destroy your competitor
Spirit of Absalom – Rebellion, heart stealing, undermining, character assignation, hunger for power and control

David resisted both spirits because of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of Saul and Absalom both Grieve the Holy Spirit!

David left the future in God’s hands!

2 Sam 18: 5 Then the king ordered Joab and Abishai and Ittai, “Deal gently for my sake with the young man Absalom.”

2 Sam 18: 14-15   Joab said, “I can’t waste my time with you.” He then grabbed three knives and stabbed Absalom in the heart while he was still alive in the tree; by then Absalom was surrounded by ten of Joab’s armor bearers; they hacked away at him and killed him.

The sermon was "Love The Helper"

 This a continuing message about the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is our main Helper, many churches do not preach on the Holy Spirit or stress the great importance of the Holy Spirit in our daily lives. I know from personal experience the great importance of the Holy Spirit in my life. I could not do what I have done or do in the future without the Holy Spirit and the Big Angels that protect us every day.

John 14:26 NKJV Jesus is speaking: "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name. He will teach you all things, and bring to you remembrance all things that I said to you"

 John 14:26-31 (NASB)
26  "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.
27  "Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.
28  "You heard that I said to you, 'I go away, and I will come to you.' If you loved Me, you would have rejoiced because I go to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.
29  "Now I have told you before it happens, so that when it happens, you may believe.
30  "I will not speak much more with you, for the ruler of the world is coming, and he has nothing in Me;
31  but so that the world may know that I love the Father, I do exactly as the Father commanded Me. Get up, let us go from here.

  Helper--Advocate--Paraciete

Paraciete ="Intercession of the Holy Spirit"
 Persuasive manner what he might intend to say. The intercession of the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:26) is easily illustrated by this adaptation of the term.

Romans 8:26-36 (NASB)
26  In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words;
27  and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
28  And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
29  For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren;
30  and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified.
31  What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?
32  He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?
33  Who will bring a charge against God's elect? God is the one who justifies;
34  who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.
35  Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36  Just as it is written, "FOR YOUR SAKE WE ARE BEING PUT TO DEATH ALL DAY LONG; WE WERE CONSIDERED AS SHEEP TO BE SLAUGHTERED."

What is a helper?  Many things  - also a Second set of Eyes
-Writers, window cleaners – Chef Pierre  & the Silver Spoon Restaurant.

Concept of a helper goes back to Gen 2:18 – Eve – a helpmeet.

2 Kings 14:26  For the Lord saw that the affliction of Israel was very bitter; and whether bond or free, there was no helper for Israel.

2 Kings 14:26 (NASB)
26  For the LORD saw the affliction of Israel, which was very bitter; for there was neither bond nor free, nor was there any helper for Israel.

Second Set of Eyes

Psalms 30:10  Hear, O Lord, and have mercy on me; Lord, be my helper!

Sunday July 31 2016

The sermon today was

"That Which Makes Christians Christians" by Dr H. L. Hendrix

 Colossians 1:1-12 (NASB)    Thankfulness for Spiritual Attainments

     Faith Hope and Love

    We have faith in Christ Jesus, Hope laid up for us in heaven, And Love for one another. It most important that we love one another as Jesus loved us.

1  Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother,
2  To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ who are at Colossae: Grace to you and peace from God our Father.
3  We give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,
4  since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and the love which you have for all the saints;
5  because of the hope laid up for you in heaven, of which you previously heard in the word of truth, the gospel
6  which has come to you, just as in all the world also it is constantly bearing fruit and increasing, even as it has been doing in you also since the day you heard of it and understood the grace of God in truth;
7  just as you learned it from Epaphras, our beloved fellow bond-servant, who is a faithful servant of Christ on our behalf,
8  and he also informed us of your love in the Spirit.
9  For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,
10  so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
11  strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously
12  giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.

Sermon was Stand Firm

Are we weary with the world around us? Wars, rumors of wars, violence

Evil plays a MAJOR role in this life – on this planet.

Confronting evil gets tiring. Not what we want to do in life

Spread of Evil – 1 John 2:16   For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.

Proverbs 27:20  Death and Destruction[a] are never satisfied,
    and neither are human eyes.

Matt 10:22 22 You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.

Matt 24:13 13 but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.

1 Cor. 16:13-14      (1) Be on your guard; (2) stand firm in the faith; (3) be courageous; (4) be strong.  (5) Do everything in love.

Eph 6:10-20 Amour of God  Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.

Please pray for the sick as Jesus really heals!!

Please pray for Pastor John & his family in Pakistan, they have been under a lot of Extreme threats!!
