Sermon : “Darkness Growing”
Pastor Kim Wenzel
The Darkness is Growing
Luke 22:47-53 NIV
Jesus Arrested
47 While he
was still speaking a crowd came up, and the man who was called Judas,
one of the Twelve, was leading them. He approached Jesus to kiss him, 48 but Jesus asked him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”
49 When Jesus’ followers saw what was going to happen, they said, “Lord, should we strike with our swords?” 50 And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear.
51 But Jesus answered, “No more of this!” And he touched the man’s ear and healed him.
52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard, and the elders, who had come for him, “Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come with swords and clubs? 53 Every day I was with you in the temple courts, and you did not lay a hand on me. But this is your hour—when darkness reigns.”
Acts 26:12-18 NIV
12 “On one of these journeys I was going to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chief priests. 13 About
noon, King Agrippa, as I was on the road, I saw a light from heaven,
brighter than the sun, blazing around me and my companions. 14 We all fell to the ground, and I heard a voice saying to me in Aramaic, ‘Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’
15 “Then I asked, ‘Who are you, Lord?’
“ ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,’ the Lord replied. 16 ‘Now get up and stand on your feet. I have appeared to you to appoint you as a servant and as a witness of what you have seen and will see of me. 17 I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles. I am sending you to them 18 to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’
Colossians 1:11-14 NLT
11 We
also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so
you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled
with joy, 12 always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light. 13 For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, 14 who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.
Ephesians 6:10-12 NLT
The Whole Armour Of God
10 A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12 For we
are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil
rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in
this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
1 John 1:10 NLT
Introduction
1 We proclaim to you the one who existed from the beginning, whom we have heard and seen. We saw him with our own eyes and touched him with our own hands. He is the Word of life. 2 This
one who is life itself was revealed to us, and we have seen him. And
now we testify and proclaim to you that he is the one who is eternal
life. He was with the Father, and then he was revealed to us. 3 We
proclaim to you what we ourselves have actually seen and heard so that
you may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father
and with his Son, Jesus Christ. 4 We are writing these things so that you may fully share our joy.
5 This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. 6 So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. 7 But
if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have
fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us
from all sin.
8 If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. 9 But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts.
Matthew 6:19-24 NLT
Teaching About Money And Possessions
19 “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. 21 Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.
22 “Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is filled with light. 23 But
when your eye is unhealthy, your whole body is filled with darkness.
And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that
darkness is!
24 “No
one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other;
you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God
and be enslaved to money.
he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You
cannot serve God and c mammon.

Today's Verse
1 John 3:16-17
By this we know love, that he
laid down his life for us, and
we ought to lay down our
lives for the brothers. But if
anyone has the world's goods
and sees his brother in need,
yet closes his heart against
him, how does God's love
abide in him?
