The Sermon Today was “Gratitude for What We Have”

Humility and Gratitude

1 Timothy 2:8-10 (NKJV)
⁸  I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere,  lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting;
9 In like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing,
10 but, which is proper for women professing godliness, with good works.

A Call To Prayer

 1 Timothy 2:1-15 (NASB)
¹  First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men,
²  for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.
³  This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,
⁴  who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
⁵  For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
⁶  who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time.
⁷  For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying) as a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
⁸  Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension. 

Women Instructed

⁹  Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments,
¹⁰  but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness.
¹¹  A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness.
¹²  But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet.
¹³  For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve.
¹⁴  And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.
¹⁵  But women will be preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in faith and love and sanctity with self-restraint.  

1. God owes us NOTHING! 
2. The World owes us NOTHING!  
3. America owes us NOTHING!

Acts 24:24-25
 ²⁴  And after some days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish, he sent for Paul and heard him concerning the faith in Christ Jesus.
²⁵  Now as he reasoned about righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and answered, "Go away for now; when I have a convenient time I will call for you." 

  Acts 24:1-27 (NASB)
¹  After five days the high priest Ananias came down with some elders, with an attorney named Tertullus, and they brought charges to the governor against Paul.
²  After Paul had been summoned, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying to the governor, "Since we have through you attained much peace, and since by your providence reforms are being carried out for this nation,
³  we acknowledge this in every way and everywhere, most excellent Felix, with all thankfulness.
⁴  "But, that I may not weary you any further, I beg you to grant us, by your kindness, a brief hearing.
⁵  "For we have found this man a real pest and a fellow who stirs up dissension among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.
⁶  "And he even tried to desecrate the temple; and then we arrested him. [We wanted to judge him according to our own Law.
⁷  "But Lysias the commander came along, and with much violence took him out of our hands,
⁸  ordering his accusers to come before you.] By examining him yourself concerning all these matters you will be able to ascertain the things of which we accuse him."
⁹  The Jews also joined in the attack, asserting that these things were so.
¹⁰  When the governor had nodded for him to speak, Paul responded: "Knowing that for many years you have been a judge to this nation, I cheerfully make my defense,
¹¹  since you can take note of the fact that no more than twelve days ago I went up to Jerusalem to worship.
¹²  "Neither in the temple, nor in the synagogues, nor in the city itself did they find me carrying on a discussion with anyone or causing a riot.
¹³  "Nor can they prove to you the charges of which they now accuse me.
¹⁴  "But this I admit to you, that according to the Way which they call a sect I do serve the God of our fathers, believing everything that is in accordance with the Law and that is written in the Prophets;
¹⁵  having a hope in God, which these men cherish themselves, that there shall certainly be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked.
¹⁶  "In view of this, I also do my best to maintain always a blameless conscience both before God and before men.
¹⁷  "Now after several years I came to bring alms to my nation and to present offerings;
¹⁸  in which they found me occupied in the temple, having been purified, without any crowd or uproar. But there were some Jews from Asia—
¹⁹  who ought to have been present before you and to make accusation, if they should have anything against me.
²⁰  "Or else let these men themselves tell what misdeed they found when I stood before the Council,
²¹  other than for this one statement which I shouted out while standing among them, 'For the resurrection of the dead I am on trial before you today.'"
²²  But Felix, having a more exact knowledge about the Way, put them off, saying, "When Lysias the commander comes down, I will decide your case."
²³  Then he gave orders to the centurion for him to be kept in custody and yet have some freedom, and not to prevent any of his friends from ministering to him.
²⁴  But some days later Felix arrived with Drusilla, his wife who was a Jewess, and sent for Paul and heard him speak about faith in Christ Jesus.
²⁵  But as he was discussing righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix became frightened and said, "Go away for the present, and when I find time I will summon you."
²⁶  At the same time too, he was hoping that money would be given him by Paul; therefore he also used to send for him quite often and converse with him.
²⁷  But after two years had passed, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus, and wishing to do the Jews a favor, Felix left Paul imprisoned. 

2 Timothy 3:2-3
 ²  For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy.
³  Unloving,unforgiving , slanders, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good. 

  2 Timothy 3:1-17 (NASB)
¹  But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come.
²  For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy,
³  unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good,
⁴  treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
⁵  holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these.
⁶  For among them are those who enter into households and captivate weak women weighed down with sins, led on by various impulses,
⁷  always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
⁸  Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men of depraved mind, rejected in regard to the faith.
⁹  But they will not make further progress; for their folly will be obvious to all, just as Jannes's and Jambres's folly was also.
¹⁰  Now you followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, perseverance,
¹¹  persecutions, and sufferings, such as happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium and at Lystra; what persecutions I endured, and out of them all the Lord rescued me!
¹²  Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.
¹³  But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.
¹⁴  You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them,
¹⁵  and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
¹⁶  All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;
¹⁷  so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. 

Let's learn to be CONTENT in whatever state we find ourselves. 

Philippians 4:11-12 (NKJV)
¹¹  Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content. 
¹²  I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound; Everywhere and in all things, I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.  

God's Provisions

 Philippians 4:10-23 (NASB)
¹⁰  But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at last you have revived your concern for me; indeed, you were concerned before, but you lacked opportunity.
¹¹  Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.
¹²  I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need.
¹³  I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.
¹⁴  Nevertheless, you have done well to share with me in my affliction.
¹⁵  You yourselves also know, Philippians, that at the first preaching of the gospel, after I left Macedonia, no church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving but you alone;
¹⁶  for even in Thessalonica you sent a gift more than once for my needs.
¹⁷  Not that I seek the gift itself, but I seek for the profit which increases to your account.
¹⁸  But I have received everything in full and have an abundance; I am amply supplied, having received from Epaphroditus what you have sent, a fragrant aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God.
¹⁹  And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
²⁰  Now to our God and Father be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
²¹  Greet every saint in Christ Jesus. The brethren who are with me greet you.

Today's Sermon "We Are The House Of Prayer"

Do we have Jesus' joy when we pray?

 Faith Church is a Praying Church!

Remember GOD answers Prayer!!

Our body is Personally a House of Prayer in which the Holy Spirit Dwells!! 


Isaiah 56:7 
7 These I will bring to My Holy Mountain and give them Joy in My House of Prayer.
their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on My alter; For my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations."

Rewards For Obedience To GOD

 Isaiah 56:1-7 (NASB)
¹  Thus says the LORD, "Preserve justice and do righteousness, For My salvation is about to come And My righteousness to be revealed.
²  "How blessed is the man who does this, And the son of man who takes hold of it; Who keeps from profaning the Sabbath, And keeps his hand from doing any evil."
³  Let not the foreigner who has joined himself to the LORD say, "The LORD will surely separate me from His people." Nor let the eunuch say, "Behold, I am a dry tree."
⁴  For thus says the LORD, "To the eunuchs who keep My Sabbaths, And choose what pleases Me, And hold fast My covenant,
⁵  To them I will give in My house and within My walls a memorial, And a name better than that of sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name which will not be cut off.
⁶  "Also the foreigners who join themselves to the LORD, To minister to Him, and to love the name of the LORD, To be His servants, every one who keeps from profaning the sabbath And holds fast My covenant;

Rev 3:14-19
14 "Write this letter to the Angel of the church in Laodicea. This is the message from the one who is the Amen-- the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God's new creation;
15 I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other!
16 But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!
17 You say, "I am rich, I have everything I want. I don't need a thing!" And you don't realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked.18 So I adsvise you to buy gold from me- gold that has been purified by fire. Then you will be rich. Also buy white garments from me so you will not be shamed by your nakedness, and ointment for your eyes so you will be able to see.
19 I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference.

Message To Laodicea

Revelation 3:14-22 (NASB)
¹⁴  "To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: The Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God, says this:
¹⁵  'I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot.
¹⁶  'So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth.
¹⁷  'Because you say, "I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing," and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked,
¹⁸  I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see.
¹⁹  'Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent.
²⁰  'Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.
²¹  'He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.
²²  'He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.'"

Remember We Are A House of Prayer! 

We Are Personally a House of Prayer, After we receive Jesus Christ as Savior, we become the temple of the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 6:19 Says 'Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own."

The Body is the Lord's

 1 Corinthians 6:12-20 (NASB)
¹²  All things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything.
¹³  Food is for the stomach and the stomach is for food, but God will do away with both of them. Yet the body is not for immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord is for the body.
¹⁴  Now God has not only raised the Lord, but will also raise us up through His power.
¹⁵  Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take away the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? May it never be!
¹⁶  Or do you not know that the one who joins himself to a prostitute is one body with her? For He says, "THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH."
¹⁷  But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him.
¹⁸  Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body.
¹⁹  Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?
²⁰  For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body. 

The Church is a House of Prayer, As we assemble together we are the corporate expression of prayer.

 Matthew 18:15-20
20 "For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst."

 Discipline and Prayer 

 Matthew 18:15-20 (NASB)
¹⁵  "If your brother sins, go and show him his fault in private; if he listens to you, you have won your brother.
¹⁶  "But if he does not listen to you, take one or two more with you, so that BY THE MOUTH OF TWO OR THREE WITNESSES EVERY FACT MAY BE CONFIRMED.
¹⁷  "If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.
¹⁸  "Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.
¹⁹  "Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven.
²⁰  "For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst."

Hebrews 10:24-25
²⁴  And let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds,
²⁵  not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.  

A New and Living Way

 Hebrews 10:19-25 (NASB)
¹⁹  Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus,
²⁰  by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh,
²¹  and since we have a great priest over the house of God,
²²  let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
²³  Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful;
²⁴  and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds,
²⁵  not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.

5 you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

As Living Stones

 1 Peter 2:4-12 (NASB)
⁴  And coming to Him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but is choice and precious in the sight of God, ⁵  you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
⁶  For this is contained in Scripture: "BEHOLD, I LAY IN ZION A CHOICE STONE, A PRECIOUS CORNER stone, AND HE WHO BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED."
⁷  This precious value, then, is for you who believe; but for those who disbelieve, "THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED, THIS BECAME THE VERY CORNER stone,"

⁹  But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God's OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
¹⁰  for you once were NOT A PEOPLE, but now you are THE PEOPLE OF GOD; you had NOT RECEIVED MERCY, but now you have RECEIVED MERCY.
¹¹  Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul.
¹²  Keep your behavior excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they slander you as evildoers, they may because of your good deeds, as they observe them, glorify God in the day of visitation.

Infiltrate rather than isolate!

1 Timothy 2:1-4

Honor Authority

 1 Peter 2:13-20 (NASB)
¹³  Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority,
¹⁴  or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right.
¹⁵  For such is the will of God that by doing right you may silence the ignorance of foolish men.
¹⁶  Act as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as bond slaves of God.
¹⁷  Honor all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king.
¹⁸  Servants, be submissive to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and gentle, but also to those who are unreasonable.
¹⁹  For this finds favor, if for the sake of conscience toward God a person bears up under sorrows when suffering unjustly.
²⁰  For what credit is there if, when you sin and are harshly treated, you endure it with patience? But if when you do what is right and suffer for it you patiently endure it, this finds favor with God.

Babylon, Persia, Assyria, Rome - Either scatter God's people or dominate them like Rome.

Genesis 3:15
And I will put enmity between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise your Head, And you shall bruise his Heel

The Fall Of Man

 Genesis 3:1-24 (NASB)
¹  Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, "Indeed, has God said, 'You shall not eat from any tree of the garden'?"
²  The woman said to the serpent, "From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat;
³  but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, 'You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.'"
⁴  The serpent said to the woman, "You surely will not die!
⁵  "For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."

What is Christian Persecution?

The International Day of Prayer for the persecuted church (IDOP) will take place Today November 6th.

Christian persecution is any hostility experienced from the world as a result of one's identification as a Christian.  From verbal harassment to hostile feelings, attitudes and actions, Christians in areas with severe religious restrictions pay a heavy price for their faith.   Beatings, physical torture, confinement, isolation, rape, severe punishment, imprisonment, slavery, discrimination in education and employment, and even death are just a few examples of the persecution they experience on a daily basis.
According to The Pew Research Center, over 75% of the world's population lives in areas with severe religious restrictions (and many of these people are Christians).  Also, according to the United States Department of State, Christians in more than 60 countries face persecution from their governments or surrounding neighbors simply because of their belief in Jesus Christ.

The Beatitudes

The Beatitudes are eight blessings recounted in the Sermon on the Mount in the Gospel of Matthew. Each one includes a topic that forms a major biblical theme.

Matthew 5:1-20 (NASB)
¹  When Jesus saw the crowds, He went up on the mountain; and after He sat down, His disciples came to Him.
²  He opened His mouth and began to teach them, saying,
³  "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
⁴  "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
⁵  "Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.
⁶  "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
⁷  "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
⁸  "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
⁹  "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

Four of the blessings also appear in the Sermon on the Plain in the Gospel of Luke, followed by four woes which mirror the blessings.

The Sermon on the Plain has parallel passages with the Sermon on the Mount.
