Sundays Sermon “Discipleship Part 6”
Jesus and Storytelling!
-Jesus was a storyteller – best ever!
-rarely gave a sermon – sermon on the mount 12 minutes long
-less that half population could read/write
-no note pads, books, smart phones, laptops, internet
People develop great memory in illiterate nations.
Storytelling and reliving creates new neutral pathways in the brain.
Part of our created being – learn best through storytelling.
-creates a “lived through” experience.
-touches and changes so much more than the intellect.
-heart, emotions, the spirit – the WHOLE being.
-Story is the container for our deepest longings, values, hopes and even fears.`
-Stories also question life. Storytelling forces self-reflection.
Story says it in easier to swallow terms.
Nathan the Prophet sent to David. How would you correct the most powerful man in the nation.
2 Sam 12:1-10 Nathan tells the story.
Story Trumps Facts – Story of where you live – address.
The Kingdom of God! – one to three sentence stories.
Luke : whole chapter - Muster seed, leavening, lost coin, planting a fig tree, etc etc
People like to think for themselves – very important! Story allows for that to happen.
I do hope many of you plan to attend our evening of soup and games next Sunday evening. If you are an "I don't drive at night" person, tell us and we will pick you up and drive you home. The food is too good, and the fun is too fun for you to miss!!!!
